Conclusion
The reasons musicians have for embracing or rejecting new musical technologies can be
simple or complex. Very often the reasons for utilizing a particular new tool or group of
tools can involve more than one of the responses outlined here. It should be noted that
whether a musician embraces or rejects a new technology may have nothing to do with
the quality of music they produce and that many musicians eschew the use of new
technologies in their work for quite sound reasons. Those who embrace the new tools
may find themselves working as pioneers – perhaps both reluctant and enthusiastic
pioneers. Finally, of those who embrace the newer technologies, often one of the reasons
they do so is because of an aesthetic imperative: they need the sounds for their
music.
