Whalley, Ian, is a senior lecturer at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New
Zealand. In 1992 he established the campus music studios and now leads the digital
music programmers to doctoral level. An active author, recent contributions include
articles for professional journals such as Music in New Zealand, academic journals
including Convergence (UK) and Enculturation (USA), and reviews for the Sunday
Star Times (NZ). Current research is focused on digital music aesthetics and
computer music simulation and modeling. As an electroacoustic composer, recent
compositions such as Inucm and Izu are influenced by music from the Asia/Pacific
region, and there is an emphasis on combining this with electroacoustic music
production and performance gestures. His research and electroacoustic works
have been included in international symposiums, residencies, conferences, and
festivals throughout Japan, Europe and Australia, and he has received several
awards and grants from bodies such as the British Council and Japan Exchange
Program.
Wilson, Julie, Director/Performer studied contemporary dance at Middlesex University with Maggie White and Gene Esko before going on to studying for a short time with Lindsay Kemp. Julie is a co-founder with Mark Bromwich of Electronic Dance Theatre which was formed in 1995 with the aim of exploring a new electronic dance theatre aesthetic. Julie was awarded a PhD (1997) in Theatre Studies with Philosophy and Psychology. Julie is currently developing a hybrid libretto for a new chamber opera Jitterbug Perfume commissioned by the Lawrence Batley Theatre with has just received a prestigious award from the Millennium Festival Commission.
