Computer Generated Music is not only capable of contributing to the world of music and musicology, as the above examples illustrate, but also to 'straight' Computer Science. In an epoch when the challenge is no longer the definition of a new Algol-like grammar for a context-free language, but the construction of systems capable of better communication and larger bandwidth, music offers an ideal frame within which to study systems which 'understand' quality instead of quantity, time instead of space, intuition instead of rationality, perception instead of deduction.

The Technical Committee on Computer Generated Music of the IEEE CS encourages these activities, with publications, conferences, reports and puts at the disposal of researchers and practitioners its whole structure, academic and industrial contacts.
