Program Notes

Gloriette for John Cage is a four minute composition for mechanical organ written in honor of John Cage, who died in 1992. In keeping with the late composer's interest in chance music, this work was algorithmically composed by processes that cause the musical letters C-A-G-E to slowly emerge out of a harmonic background of G dorian. Rhythmic mensuration and the number of voices of the piece were similarly inspired by the late composer's name. The work was composed and manuscripted in Stella and Common Music using a Merge that controlled eight Generator objects in parallel.

This piece is included in the enclosed Compact Disk.
